Wisconsin Governor Jim Doyle Signs ‘Diggers Hotline Week’ Proclamation
Diggers Hotline, Wisconsin’s
one-call center, was recently acknowledged by a proclamation signed by Wisconsin
Governor Jim Doyle declaring May 18-24, 2003, as “Diggers Hotline Week” in
Wisconsin.
Governor Doyle signed the proclamation at the state capitol announcing the 15th annual Diggers Hotline week and recognizing Diggers Hotline as a necessary element in ensuring the safety of excavation projects and work taking place near overhead lines.
Originally established as a one-call center for Milwaukee County in 1976, Diggers Hotline expanded to include six metropolitan Milwaukee area counties later that year. Diggers Hotline merged with Dane County One-Call in 1983 and kept expanding its service territory until statewide coverage was reached in 1984, the same year it was incorporated as a non-profit corporation.
Diggers Hotline processed over 703,000 incoming locate requests and made 3.8 million notifications to state facility owners in 2002. Over 1,000 facility owners are currently members of Diggers Hotline.
